  • Nurturing parenting program

Nurturing Parenting Programs provide parents with effective behavior management tools and encourage the development of healthy parent-child relationships.  These family-centered classes are designed to strengthen families through education in empathy and caring, responsibility and discipline, and family growth.  The Nurturing Parenting Programs are dynamic and exciting, and are proven to build caring, non-violent families.  One of the exciting aspects of the Nurturing Parenting Program classes is that the children are learning their own skills while parents focus on parenting styles.  Families then come together to practice what they have learned.

Our comprehensive Nurturing Parenting Program classes run for 17 weeks.  Classes are available for:

    • Parents of children ages 0-5
    • Parents of children ages 5-12
    • Parents of adolescents

Please call (719) 520-1019 if you would like more information or you would like to register for an upcoming class.

The ABC's for Parents was specifically designed for parents and their children entering Kindergarten to teach the concepts of discipline and family rules, praise, personal power, and problem solving.  The ABC's forParents is designed for parents and their children ages 4-8 to attend together.   The program runs one evening weekly for 7 weeks.  It is an effective program to help families understand and respond to some of the challenges they may face when children begin school.

The Nurturing Parenting Program is designed to foster healthy relationships between parents and their children.  Group discussions, interactive activities, and videos help to increase parents' and children's understanding of program concepts.

  • Shaken Baby Syndrome

Shaken Baby Syndrome is a very serious form of child abuse.  Shaking a baby in anger or frustration can lead to permanent disability and even death.  We have purchased a Shaken Baby Syndrome simulator doll to help raise awareness of the dangers.

The simulator, designed with a transparent head that clearly shows the traumatic brain injuries caused by this underreported and often misdiagnosed form of child abuse.  When the simulator is shaken, affected sections of the brain light up to illustrate where brain damage has occurred.

The Shaken Baby Syndorme simulator is used in conjunction with a curriculum that addresses the many serious disabilities a child may suffer as a result of shaking, including blindness, seizures, learning disabilities, behavior disorders, paralysis and even death.  Strategies for calming a crying by baby or coping with the inconsolable baby are also presented with the demonstration.

Community groups, schools, clubs and other organizations are invited to call Pikes Peak Family Connections, Inc., (719) 520-1019, to schedule a presentation.

  • Education and outreach

Child abuse and neglect are community-wide issues - and they are preventable.  Pikes Peak Family Connections works to bring the facts about abuse and neglect and information about parenting options to the community, along with information about our prevention and treatment programs.  We offer presentations at area schools, service organizations, and other community agencies.  We also attend community resource events to disseminate information and to answer questions.  Our bumper stickers with our well-known message are seen on cars throughout the Pikes Peak Region.

NEVER HURT A CHILD!  NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, EVER!

Please call (719) 520-1019 if you would like to schedule a presentation or to receive literature or bumper stickers.

  • secondhand smoke education

Secondhand smoke is dangerous to everyone, but particularly to children.  Our tobacco prevention and education specialist provides trainings for parents in PPFC programs about the dangers of secondhand smoke exposure.  Providing our clients with information about secondhand smoke and encouraging them to sign smoke-free home and car pledges is another way that PPFC works to keep children healthy and safe.

We also offer secondhand smoke prevention training to any community professionals who work with families and would like to know more about encouraging their clients to reduce children's exposure to secondhand smoke.

Please call (719) 520-1019  for more information or to schedule a training.

nurturing parenting program participant testimonials

"Before I attended the Nurturing Parenting Program, I can honestly say I was clueless about being a mom ... During the class, I learned why my child acted in a certain way and what options I had as a parent to deal with her actions.  I also received emotional support.  I learned about other resources available to me, which relieved a world of stress.  If it weren't for the Nurturing Parenting Classes, I would probably still be clueless.  This program is an essential part of parenting."

kpc kids' Place client testimonials

"Earlier this year I was in a difficult place.  I finally divorced my abusive husband and took out a restraining order, but he violated it repeatedly.  I was so afraid he'd hurt our son.  I needed to find a safe place for us to live, but I wanted my son out of harm's way while I looked.

I couldn't believe it when I found out about KPC Kids' Place ... the staff was so kind and made my son and me feel so safe.  I could rest easy knowing my son was safe and well cared for while I worked to make a new life for us.  I don't know where we'd be without KPC Kids' Place."
